Bad timing for a social visit, though. "You don’t want to be here today." He hadn’t fed in over a month. Blood hunger clawed at his stomach. He’d planned to make the long drive to El Paso tonight, find a loose young thing at a bar, and take her with his cock and then his fangs. But when Emma tipped her head and her hair swung away from her neck, his fangs tingled, ready to come down.

"I snuck in through the gate after your foreman left." He looked past her. The sun was down, the yard lights glared from the barn, and a bike lay at the foot of the porch steps. Was she stalking him? Ironic. He usually did the stalking.

Six Sentence Sunday – Part 2 of 7

Part 2 of 7

A tall blonde girl nearly toppled in, her arm raised for another knock. Her big, blue eyes opened wide when her fist stopped an inch short of his chin. "Emma?" The night shift waitress at the diner. "Who let you onto the property?" A flush of red crept up her neck. His nostrils flared as he caught the scent of blood.

Six Sentence Sunday – Part 1 of 7

From my All Romance eBook Just One Bite Short Story Contest Finalist THIS COWBOY BITES -- Voting begins October 1!

Part 1 of 7

In his sleep, Kade Rourke sensed someone on his property. Someone other than the ranch hand who’d already left for the day. Loud banging on the front door yanked him fully awake. "Shit." Moving on fast-forward, he pulled on black jeans, a black t-shirt, and boots. He wrenched open the front door before the next knock.

The excerpt I included with my blog today is one of the most romantic in the first part of Chase and Seduction – in my opinion. Everyone has their own idea of romance. A quiet walk down a leaf-strewn country road in the fall. A bench in a city park where people watching is as colorful as the fall leaves on the trees. Some people like a dinner at a restaurant and a movie in a theater, and others enjoy staying home and snuggling while watching television. Pizza delivery always comes in handy for these dates! How about those lucky enough to have a fall getaway to somewhere with sunny days, cool, crisp nights, and a bonfire under the stars. When I read a book, I love to be swept away by the romance, no matter where it occurs. I like to engage my heart in a story, whether I'm laughing or crying or saying "Ohhhhh!" That tender connection between a couple is what makes me fall in love with the characters – and with the author who can overwhelm me every time I pick up one of their books.

ADULT EXCERPT:

Chase laughed, then sobered. His fingers slid under her hair, caressing her neck softly as he said, “You are a beautiful woman.” She’d often been called beautiful-but-healthy, which referred to those extra forty pounds that made the difference between being a model, and being just plain Reno Linden. He ran his fingers up the back of her head. “Your hair is like satin. And I’ve never seen eyes that color. Amber.” Trying to keep from grinning, she teased, “Reno.” He laughed. “No, your eyes are amber.” Seconds slipped by before he tipped his head and brushed his lips over hers. She closed her eyes and parted her lips to breathe in his essence. With a groan, his arm came around her waist, and he pulled her closer. His tongue danced with hers, the unexpectedly sweet taste of tequila and tobacco making her hungry for more of him. Chase ended the kiss then pressed his lips to her temple and began swaying them in a slow dance. Quietly, he sang, “You’re the one I’ve been looking for, You’re the light behind that hidden door, Can’t figure out where you’ve been all my life, but I don’t wanna be without you anymore.” Something melted inside her as he sang the song he dedicated to her from the stage. This was where she belonged, in his arms, where she fit perfectly, a lost puzzle piece at last finding its place. He said, “Look at me, Reno.”

Six Sentence Sunday

From my All Romance eBook Just One Bite Short Story Contest Finalist THIS COWBOY BITES -- Voting begins October 1!

Squaring her shoulders, Emma went after what she wanted. Her running shoes tread silently as she entered the barn. At the other end, Kade dropped the saddle he carried and turned to her. "I asked you to leave." Taking a fortifying breath, she let it out with, "I don't want to leave." She strode forward, concentrating on one thing - his bite.

Six Sentence Sunday

Trace eased the screen door closed, not meeting her gaze. Removing his hat, he hung it on a coat rack next to the door. "It can wait." He moved closer and slid his hands over her shoulders.
"Hold on," Macy said, forcing herself back from the edge of seduction, taking a step back out of his grasp. "I want to know about these papers first."

Six Sentence Sunday

When Chase released Drake’s hand, Reno said, “Drake was instrumental in my attaining the teaching position.”
“Great,” Chase worked to keep the sarcasm out of his voice, “Now I know who to thank.” And had more than one reason to dislike him.
Drake’s eyes narrowed and his grin turned cocky as he drawled, “We discussed it last week when I stopped by her farm for a visit.”
Chase snapped his gaze to Reno, and she looked guilty.
Chase raised one eyebrow. “You had a visitor?”

Six Sentence Sunday

Chase sat slouched on the bed in his red boxer briefs, his head hanging low, his forearms resting on his thighs, and his hands pressed together between his knees. “Forgive me?” he asked quietly. Tears formed in Reno's eyes. This man was complex, temperamental, and maddeningly traditional, but he was hers. She walked to him, knelt in front of him, and took his hands. He wouldn’t look her in the eye. Kissing his palms, she whispered, “You can never do anything that I won’t forgive.”

Six Sentence Sunday

We live in different worlds. That’s the problem,” Chase said, pointing toward the arena full of fans chanting his name. “No we don’t," Reno whispered. "We live in one world, where you and I are the only people who matter.” He shook his head. The only person who mattered was Reno, and her happiness depended on her moving on. “You’re destined for greater things than a tour bus.”
